Description of Work UnitCampus Recreation, an auxiliary unit in the Division of Student Affairs, provides wellness and healthy lifestyle oriented programs, events, and services to Colorado State University students and employees via seven programmatic areas: Student Recreation Center, Aquatics, Fitness, Intramural Sports, Sport Clubs, Outdoor Program, and Climbing Wall. Nine service units - Membership Services, Business Office, Information Technology, Communications/Marketing, Facility Scheduling/Event Management, Training & Development, Custodial Services, Equipment Management, and Maintenance - support the program functions to provide seamless customer service to CSU students, employees, and their families.Campus Recreation facilities, programs, and services promote a sense of community, support student development through leadership and employment opportunities, and encourage the pursuit of a healthy lifestyle to a diverse University population. Position SummaryThe Specialty Class Instructor is responsible for leading various, semester-long, drop-in oriented group classes for Campus Recreation patrons, promoting health, wellness, and development in areas of martial arts or dance. Instructors will operate independently in the class studios and enforce program participation policies, provide safe and effective education and instruction and apply risk management procedures in emergency situations.Position Minimum QualificationsNationally recognized Instructor Certification with pass/fail testing element (ACE, ACSM, NSCA, NASM or others as accepted by Assistant Director, Fitness). OR Completion of the Campus Recreation Fitness Instructor Training (FIT) course and exam.

Duty/Responsibility
- Create class curricula and lead groups through fitness classes suitable for varying ability levels.
- Consistently uphold all Campus Recreation department policies and procedures for patron and employee management related to position, solve problems within limits of department policy and procedures, and maintain effective communication with colleagues.
- Uphold service ethic, appearance standards and Emergency Action Plan response.
- Demonstrate active engagement with and support of the department Mission, Vision, and Values.
- Provide a safe and effective environment for patrons.
- Demonstrate strong instruction, motivation, leadership and customer service skills.
- Be alert to disorders, injuries and inappropriate behavior and deal with as trained and/or report to Recreation Supervisor and supervisor accordingly.
- Attend all trainings, Recreation Development Program sessions, 1on1s and team meetings as required.
- Perform peer evaluations and studio cleaning as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
