Region/Counties:
2 screeners: Region 1 (Northeast Ohio): Ashland, Ashtabula, Columbiana, Cuyahoga, Holmes, Lake, Mahoning, Medina, Portage, Stark, Summit, Trumbull, Wayne.
1 screener: Region 2 (Northwest Ohio): Allen, Defiance, Fulton, Hancock, Logan, Lucas Ottawa, Putnam, Seneca, Shelby.
1 screener: Region 3 (Southwest Ohio): Adams, Brown, Butler, Clark, Clermont, Clinton, Fayette, Greene, Hamilton, Miami, Montgomery, Preble, Warren.
1 screener for Region 4 & 5 (Central Ohio and Southeast Ohio): Coshocton, Delaware, Fairfield, Franklin, Hocking, Lawrence, Licking, Morrow, Perry, Pickaway, Ross, Scioto, Union, Washington.
What You'll Do:
The Ohio Department of Health (ODH), Bureau of Child and Family Health (BCFH) is seeking five (5) Oral Health Consultants across the state of Ohio. The Oral Health Consultants will serve in a regional capacity and will implement and conduct the oral health screening/survey and provide direct support to schools and school nurses within their region. The oral health consultant will serve as a screener for the statewide oral health survey of third grade schoolchildren to be conducted during the 2023-24 school year.
Current license to practice dental hygiene in Ohio pursuant to Chapter 4715.21 of Revised Code is required.
Proof of inoculation or immunity to Hepatitis B virus in accordance with Section 4715-20-01A of Ohio State Dental Board (OSDB) rules or present waiver from OSDB is required.
Must be able to provide own transportation.
- Primary duties:
- Acts as a program consultant to implement the statewide oral health survey of third grade school children special project in schools in assigned number of counties.
- Assists with the implementation of the project: coordinates with the assigned schools to conduct the project and finalizes arrangements with school staff in schools selected for participation in the survey.
- Conducts oral health screening in accordance with prescribed protocols.
- Provides technical assistance on how best to conduct the project at each school.
- Conducts presentations to educate teachers, students and families about the screening and to boost participation.
- Troubleshoots any problems or barriers to implementing project as required by standard guidelines.
Training and development required to remain in the classification after employment: Biennial renewal of license to practice dental hygiene.
UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Requires travel; requires occasional overnight stays.

- Qualifications
- License to practice dental hygiene in Ohio pursuant to Chapter 4715.21 of Revised Code;
- Bachelor's degree in dental hygiene, education, or health-related field;
- 6 months training or 6 months experience in public/community health;
- Proof of inoculation or immunity to Hepatitis B virus in accordance with Section 4715-20-01A of Ohio State Dental Board rules or present waiver from OSDB;
- Must be able to provide own transportation.
